Every IMPACT Fellow is joined by one African American leader from their community, creating an intergenerational exchange of ideas. Entrepreneurs who attend nine monthly training sessions are required to complete their homework in between sessions in order to complete the growth plan that they present following the IMPACT fellowship. IMPACT Fellows are also able to use the an 1871 shared workspace and other incubators in the course of their fellowship.



Sunshine Enterprises



Sunshine Enterprises aims to help businesses with the highest potential who have limited resources, to expand their businesses, and to change their neighborhoods. This is made possible by their 12 week Community Business Academy, and the ongoing Business Acceleration Service assistance, including workshops and microgrants, as well as the coaching.




Sunshine offers entrepreneurs financing assistance that is often the largest obstacle in starting or growing a company. The Business Coaches of Sunshine consult with entrepreneurs one-on-one to determine the type of funding needed and develop an action plan. Sunshine also works with a wide range of financial partners like Chicago Neighborhood Initiatives (CNI), Byline Bank, CIBC Bank as well as Wintrust Community Bank.




Rising Tide Capital's business model acts as the basis for this non-profit's activities. President Obama has recognized them for changing lives and revitalizing areas through the organization's Community Business Academy, with 94% of the graduates going on to create new jobs and businesses when they graduate from this course.




Sunshine Enterprises provides local entrepreneurs with assistance via UChicago Local. The collaboration between UChicago Medicine and the University will allow the university to restructure its procurement department to utilize more local vendors that offer the most competitive offers. This helps grow the small-scale businesses that are located in Chicago while also contributing to the social initiatives run by the university. UChicago Local also links local entrepreneurs supported through Sunshine Enterprises with other programming like Chicago Innovation Exchange or Institute for Justice Clinic focused on Entrepreneurship located at Law School and expands possibilities.



Incubatoredu



INCubatoredu provides students with the opportunity to experience entrepreneurship by creating their own company. Every class is accompanied by a mentor or coach who will guide teams of students through the course and help with tasks related to washable feet insoles and social apps. students have ample opportunities to try out their ideas using lean business practices.




As student teams progress through the curriculum, they learn how improve and develop their startup ideas by conducting research on ideas and customers and market research. They also learn about developing prototypes, pitching and building. The process helps foster teamwork, communication, and problem solving skills as well as teaching students how to quickly adapt to changes.




Each year, teams participate in INCubatoredu National Pitch to compete for seed funding for their startup companies. It is referred to as a"shark-tank"-style competition and provides valuable chances for teams to connect with investors.




Students and teachers alike are able to form friendships that last a lifetime with INCubatoredu that will impact their lives, careers, and the wider community outside of their classrooms.
