Cutera Excel HR Laser




Lasers work by treating the skin with a particular wavelength of light. Wavelengths are chosen depending on the absorption of the laser beam by particular biological tissue. Specific wavelengths are better than others as they are taken up by the specific chromophores that the treatment is focused on, for example hair follicles absorb 755 + 1064 wavelength safely.


The power and precision of treatment is specified by the engineering within the laser.  With an established history and proven track record the Cutera Excel HR laser is recognised by dermatologists as an industry leader in the treatment of Hair Removal.


We have carefully chosen our Excel HR laser device after much consideration and testing, we found it to be the most comfortable and effective achieving the best results in the fewest treatments for hair reduction.


Our Excel HR Hair Removal laser is FDA approved and extremely safe. Thames Skin Clinic staff are highly trained by Cutera in the use of Excel HR for Hair removal treatments.


CUTERA Excel HR is the latest generation laser technology for Hair Removal treatment. Excel HR delivers the power, precision, and performance to safety and effectively reduce hair from a many body areas. Featuring two clinically proven advanced wavelengths 755nm/1064nm and smart sapphire cooling system- eliminating unnecessary collateral tissue damage and downtime, while making treatment more comfortable.

Excel HR Hand pieces


Cutera have developed CoolView, a very specific hair removal hand piece to provide treatment and contact cooling at the same time. This makes treatment more comfortable.


Laser Hair Removal works by targeting the hair root in it’s growth phase. As a hair has 4 phases the laser will pick out the growing hairs where the laser will be absorbed and stop the hair from growing.


Over a 2 week period the hair stops functioning and the body ejects the root. This hair will not grow again.


In your next treatment the remaining hairs in the growth phase will be treated and removed and so on for your treatment course.


Laser Hair Removal is always offered in a course of 6 treatments initially. Further treatment may be needed.


Laser Hair Removal is always managed with maintenance treatments as further hairs may grow in the treated area. These can be performed every 6-12 months to maintain clearance. For this reason we often refer to laser hair removal as laser hair reduction.


We charge maintenance treatments at a lower rate for patients who have purchased their initial course through us.


Not all laser treatment are suitable for all skin types. This is why all our patients have an initial consultation before going ahead with a patch test and then treatment.


During your consultation we check any medication and medical conditions which may be contraindicated  for certain treatments. There are some medical conditions and medications that are not suitable for Laser or IPL. We do not recommend treatment with laser if you are pregnant or breast feeding until approved by our Medical Director.

Our Cutera. Excel HR Laser technology is FDA approved and classified as Medical Grade. This means the caliber and quality of the laser is certified and regulated. Cutera lasers are found in a regulated medical clinics.


Excel HR treatment features two specific clinically proven advanced wavelengths at 755nm and 1064nm targeting different types, colours, thicknesses of hair. With a smart sapphire cooling system the Excel HR laser eliminates unnecessary collateral tissue damage and unwanted downtime.

Laser treatments target many different concerns and each setting will feel slightly different. Laser treatment is often described as an elastic band flick sensation against the skin and some treatments feel hot.


Our Excel HR laser is equipped with contact sapphire cooling system to provide your treatment with optimum comfort.  Contact cooling helps to keep the surface of this skin nice and cool and ensure the epidermis (surface skin) remains protected. For this reason the contact cooling decreases treatment sensation and makes the treatment less painful compared to treatment without contact cooling.


Excel HR Laser treatment is safe and effective way to decrease hair growth and remove unwanted hair.

Post treatment side effects depend on the type of laser treatment  you have had. Patients may experience


These side effects are a normal after laser hair removal treatment and usually resolve within hours or a next few days.


It is essential to follow our aftercare and skin protection advice following our procedures. This will be discussed in detail in your consultation.


 


Please note before laser treatment you cannot wear fake tan or have been exposed to strong sunlight for between 2 –  4 weeks before your treatment. For this reason, we usually recommend treatment between September and May when most people are likely to be less exposed to the sun. Sun exposure can increase risks and side effects post treatment and will be discussed in detail in your pre-treatment consultation.


Following treatment with Excel HR laser your skin may experience some


Some post treatment symptoms resolves within hours, others take a few days and hair reduction takes days.


The post treatment recovery time depends on the specific treatment you have had and will be discussed in detail during your consultation.


First your medical history will be taken followed by an examination of your skin concerns. Your doctor or therapist can discuss whether Excel HR Laser treatment is suitable for you and if this will address your expectations from our treatment. When the consultation has been fully explained you will be required to sign a consent form and a photograph will be taken for your confidential records. A patch test is always required at least 48 hours prior to treatment, in some cases i.e. for a single spot treatment none is required. Patch test is for safe practice and effective results, this helps to monitor settings and response of the skin and see how the surrounding skin tissue reacts.

Side Effects


Normal post Laser side effects include some heat and redness/blushing in the skin and some tightness, itching and ticking of the treatment area. Some resolves within hours, others over a few days from 48 hours to 7-14 days post treatment. This all depends on the area treated on the day.
