As a general guideline, the cost of double glazing for a standard-sized window can range from a few hundred to a few thousand pounds, depending on the above factors. But it's important to note that the cost can be higher for larger or more complex windows, or for windows made from premium materials. In poorly insulated homes, condensation can occur, causing your windows to become damp, ultimately leading to unwanted mould around your window seals. As condensation occurs when hot air meets a cold surface, double glazing fixes this problem. Instead, the warm air in your home will come into contact with the internal pane of glass, which remains at your home's preferred temperature, therefore not resulting in condensation. There are many benefits to insulating your home, including reduced environmental impact and improved comfort.
With twice the number of panes (and the extra layer between them), it stands to reason that double glazed windows provide twice the amount of insulation as single glazed windows. Once sealed, your replacement windows will be airtight and ready to provide you with improved performance all year round. Scotia are members of the Secured by Design scheme and have all the correct accreditations to manufacture your windows to an extremely high standard of security. This includes upgrades to the hardware and glass specification to make it even more difficult for anyone to break in through your double glazed windows and doors. CosyGlazing is Mitchell & Dickinson’s award-winning secondary glazing product, designed specifically for period and listed buildings.
A u-value is a measure of how easily heat passes through a material, but it is not a complete measure of how efficient a window is. The overall label rating will give you a better indication of the window’s energy saving potential. Mitchell & Dickinson has been testing magnetic tape for 15 years with no weakening of magnets. The adhesive is a very high-quality adhesive tape made by TESA which has a very long life. On rare occasions, it has been known to delaminate on specific surfaces which contain high levels of oils (such as linseed oil, for example). All Mitchell & Dickinson installations come with a 5-year guarantee as standard.
In England and Wales, new and replacement windows must meet a certain level of energy efficiency. You need to get a certificate to show your windows comply with these regulations. An installer registered with one of the self-certification schemes will issue this certificate for you – otherwise your local council will need to come and check the work. Everything from how to ensure you have the best security for your property, to finding the perfect windows, doors and conservatories for your home.
You're more likely to go for the last option if you're doing a home renovation, such as building an extension or converting your loft. If you're already working on a building project, your tradesperson may be able to organise and buy double glazing for you, possibly at a trade price. At some point you may want to sell your home, so make sure the style you pick won’t put off potential buyers. Costs vary, depending on whether you use a local or national company, how many windows you want installed, and the type of window and frame.

Unlike single glazing, double glazing features two distinct panels of glass that are separated by a vacuum cavity. This vacuum layer acts as an insulative barrier, preventing cold air from entering and warm air from escaping. If you’ve started to notice condensation in between the panes of glass in your double glazing units, then it is likely that the seal is broken, and the unit will need to be replaced.
