All our product types feature the same slim-line, unobtrusive aesthetics. Long gone are the days of bulky secondary glazed frames, our product range is fully optimised for modern day living. From classic casement, to tilt & turn, create double glazed windows to suit your home. This issue was discussed by BRE’s John Beasley in an earlier article and relates to cracking in units due to thermal stress. As the centre pane of a triple glazed unit has no air movement around it, because it is encapsulated, it can reach much higher temperatures than would be expected for double glazing. The solution is, as John pointed out, to use a toughened pane in the centre of the unit, which will inevitably increase cost again.

Some of these issues are minor imperfections that fall within the scope of visual distortions. If there are any major issues discovered during installation the glass might be installed to secure and seal the property and replaced when the new glass has been delivered. In the video below, Matt from Ceramic Materials Workshop explains why glazes craze, and how to adjust them to stop it from happening.
SDH has invested in tooling to introduce a new range of internally glazed Ovolo Beads (QW-SD2 & QW-SD4), matching Astragal Bars, and a unique clip system in Q Wood. This investment will assist joiners and homeowners in achieving better-performing windows that outlast externally beaded windows. Furthermore, there will be significantly fewer remedial call-outs due to bead shrinkage and pin issues. The sun’s radiation is made up of heat, light and UV (ultra-violet) light.
And believe it or not, exterior glazing can also be used for security purposes, including using safety, security and wired glass, as we discussed above. These can be tougher to break, fire-resistant and less likely to splinter or shatter, causing injury in the case of breakage. The controlled and consistent humidity and environment inside a building ensure that your bead, and indeed your entire window, will last longer, perform better, and maintain its appearance. Designed to reduce transparency, Rationel OBSCURE glass is the ideal choice for any room where both privacy and natural light are essential, such as a bathroom. Non-insulating glassFire resisting glass, providing the criteria of E (integrity) only. Mirror SilveringA chemical process used in the manufacture of mirrors, whereby a coating of metal, mostly silver, is deposit on the surface of clear or body-tinted glass. MirrorMirrors are commonly made using glass with a smooth, polished surface that forms images through the reflection of rays and light from a silvered backing.

Typical variations include double glazed units, utilising toughened heat soak tested and laminated glass, triple glazed, walk on specification glass suited to your required loadings and even fire rated glazing. Other options include acoustic glass for locations with high noise pollution, solar control and different types of privacy glass. Secondary glazing works as an additional layer of glazing for your existing windows.
Sealed Double Glazed UnitA combination consisting of two glass panes enclosing a hermetically-sealed air space. Restoration GlassHistoric glass has character due to its undulations and bubbles from its handmade process which modern glass lacks. There are a small number of glass manufacturers and suppliers of this traditional glass, which can, depending on its suitability, even be incorporated in double glazing. Low Iron GlassLow iron glass is ultra clear and provides a higher degree of transparency than clear float glass.
Replacing the glazing in a period property doesn’t happen often – and it deserves to be done right, using the proper glass. After WWII putting a hold on things, Haven’s ‘Thermopane’ product was finally put into production in 1952. It promptly became one of the most popular luxury products on the home market.
This includes the glass, the frame and everything that goes into windows. The average noise level inside a home is thought to be approximately 40 dB. With humans able to hear sounds up to 140dB, soundproof windows are essential to keep your home environment as quiet and peaceful as possible. There are many outside sounds that can make their way into your property, glass extension including traffic sounds, conversations between pedestrians, building work and sirens. Because our glazing fits the existing timber & metal frames, we don’t alter the fine detailing of your glazing bars. The findings, from Confusedaboutenergy.co.uk, paint an illuminating picture, about how the effectiveness of double glazing can vary dramatically.
